Hatterday Petro-Queens - Calgary, Alberta, Canada
A Brief History.
The Red Hat Society is often referred to fondly as a "disorganization". It was inadvertently begun by Sue Ellen Cooper of Fullerton, California when she and a few friends took inspiration from a popular poem entitled "Warning" by Jenny Joseph, which begins "When I am an old woman..." Since the poem mentions wearing a red hat and purple attire, she and her friends formed a group that met on a regular basis for tea in their red hats and purple dresses—in public, of course.
Who are we?
We are a bevy of fabulous women who know have to have fun and aren't afraid to show it. If you can see yourself with a RED HAT and PURPLE outfit, sashaying about town with your Red Hat Sisters, you're destined for great fun and friendship.
(You don't have to wait till you're 50 to join! Under 50 wear Pink Hats and Lavender outfits until you RED-uate!)
What do we do?
Hatterday Petro-Queens began June 1, 2005. Our goal is to have one lunch-time gathering (at Petro-Canada) and at least one outing each month.
We've been to the Stampede Parade, That's Crafty and high tea at the Lougheed House, Jubilations Dinner Theatre, Hooters, three cooking classes, Death by Chocolate, and so much more. We have lots of exciting plans for the coming months!
Future Plans:
- Heritage Park Fall Fair
- Retreat in Pidgeon Lake
- Theatre "The Full Monty"
- Spruce Meadow's Masters (with 900 other Red Hatters)
